Wong Ching Yong, Deputy Chairman of the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), has encouraged longhouse residents in Sibu to take advantage of the Longhouse Individual Loan Scheme (PKPRP) administered by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). During a briefing at Rumah Dorothy Yathy Philip Kayak, Wong emphasized that the scheme facilitates the construction of new longhouses or the renovation of existing ones, thereby improving living conditions and creating development opportunities for younger generations. The PKPRP, established in 1978, provides interest-free loans with affordable repayment terms over a maximum of 25 years. Households building new or incomplete structures can access up to RM50,000, while those repairing existing units are eligible for RM30,000. Notably, funds are disbursed as essential building materials rather than cash, ensuring resources are used directly for housing improvements. The package also includes fire insurance coverage. Wong, also representing the Sarawak United People’s Party, pledged continued support in liaising with government agencies to maximize community benefits from this initiative.
