SpiceJet and Akasa Air Planes Collide at Delhi Airport

A SpiceJet aircraft collided with a stationary Akasa Air plane while taxiing at Delhi's Terminal 1 on Thursday afternoon, marking the latest in a series of safety incidents at India's busiest airport. The incident occurred around 2:15 pm when the SpiceJet Boeing 737-700, arriving from Leh, made contact with the Akasa Air Boeing 737 MAX 8, which was scheduled for a flight to Hyderabad. No injuries were reported, but both aircraft sustained damage; the SpiceJet's right winglet and the Akasa Air's left-hand horizontal stabilizer were affected. Consequently, both planes have been grounded. Akasa Air confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely and are being rebooked on alternative flights. This event follows several recent safety breaches at Delhi airport, including an emergency landing by IndiGo in March 2026, engine damage to an Air India A350 in January 2026, and a runway breach by an Ariana flight in November 2025. Authorities have launched an investigation into the ground collision, highlighting growing concerns over operational safety protocols at the hub.
