Spectator Gored to Death by Bull at Manjuvirattu Event in Sivaganga

A tragic incident occurred in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, where a spectator was fatally gored by a bull during a traditional manjuvirattu event. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Padmanabhan from Kandaramanickam near Tiruppatur, was attending the gathering organized as part of the Puravi Eduppu festival at Alavakkottai, near Madagupatti. According to police reports, the bull suddenly charged at Padmanabhan while he was watching the event on Sunday. He sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The Madagupatti police have registered a case regarding the incident and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack. This event highlights the inherent risks associated with traditional bull-taming sports like manjuvirattu, which are popular in certain regions of Tamil Nadu but often face scrutiny regarding safety regulations and spectator protection measures during such cultural festivals.
