Six Family Members Drown in Cauvery River During Urus Gathering in Mysuru
Six members of an extended family, including three children, drowned in the Cauvery river in Karnataka’s Mysuru district on Sunday afternoon. The tragedy occurred near the Arkeshwara Temple in K R Nagar taluk while the group was attending an Urus event, a Sufi saint's death anniversary, at the Hazrat Khader Lingavali Dargah. According to police, the incident began when a child slipped into the water around 3 pm. Several relatives rushed in to attempt a rescue but were swept away by the current. The deceased have been identified as Fatima (42), Uzeir (5), newlyweds Mohammed Yasin (23) and Neha Kausar (19), Emma Aiman (13), and Afif Ahmed (13). Local fishers managed to rescue three other family members who are currently receiving medical treatment. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep grief over the loss and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each victim's family. Police officials, including the Mysuru Superintendent of Police, visited the site and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
