Singapore to Redevelop Two Migrant Worker Recreation Centres into Enhanced Hubs
The Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced the redevelopment of two migrant worker recreation centres, aiming to enhance social and recreational support for over 100,000 workers. The Soon Lee Recreation Centre in Jurong West will be transformed into Singapore's first dedicated recreation hub, nearly doubling its usable space to serve more than 100,000 individuals. Upgrades include weather-proof sports facilities, medical services, retail and food options, and dedicated spaces for government and non-governmental organizations. The Kaki Bukit Recreation Centre in eastern Singapore will also undergo upgrades to support over 20,000 workers with improved amenities. Both projects, expected to be completed by the end of 2030, feature flexible spaces convertible for crisis use, such as medical services or vaccination centers. MOM stated these initiatives aim to create vibrant community anchors where workers can rest, learn, and connect. Consultants have been called upon to design and oversee the redevelopment, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for migrant workers in Singapore.
