Setting Research Priorities for Climate Change Impacts on Women and Children in LMICs
Climate change represents a critical global health threat in the 21st century, with low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) bearing a disproportionate burden due to significant climate risks, pre-existing vulnerabilities, and limited interventions. Amidst a scarcity of local research and diminishing development assistance, establishing clear research priorities to address the health impacts on women and children is both urgent and prudent. To address this gap, a study utilized the Child Health and Nutrition Research Initiative method to consult 88 climate and health researchers between 2022 and 2024. The primary objective was to generate relevant questions concerning the specific effects of climate change on the health of women and children, as well as to identify potential solutions. This collaborative effort aims to guide future research and policy decisions in resource-constrained settings, ensuring that interventions are targeted effectively to protect vulnerable populations from the escalating dangers posed by environmental changes.
