School Theater Project Halted After Pornography Scandal in Saxony

A theater project at a high school in Lusatia, Saxony, was abruptly canceled following the discovery of pornographic material among craft supplies provided to ninth-grade students. The incident occurred in March during a workshop focused on the theme of courage, organized by the Socialist Youth of Germany - The Falcons (SJD). Students found magazines containing images of sexual representations and naked people within donated materials. Upon discovery, project leaders removed the items, but several parents subsequently filed criminal charges. Micki Börchers, federal chairwoman of the SJD, expressed deep regret, stating the incident violated the association's standards. Consequently, the two adult female supervisors were stripped of their responsibilities, and their service contracts were terminated by school management. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation, a key funder advocating for human rights, also withdrew its financial support. Police are currently investigating the two suspects on suspicion of distributing pornographic content to minors. The scandal has prompted a broader review of safety protocols in youth educational programs, highlighting the severe consequences of inadequate material screening in school environments.
