Sherbrooke-based deep tech startup SBQuantum has closed a $4 million USD seed funding round, marking its first private capital investment after nearly a decade of bootstrapping. The financing was co-led by Quantonation and Quantacet, with support from Investissement Québec. Concurrently, the company appointed Eric Giroux as its new CEO, while co-founder David Roy-Guay transitions to Chief Technology Officer. These strategic moves support SBQuantum’s expansion into the United States through a newly established sister entity, Zero Drift Technologies, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This structure allows the firm to access US defense contracts while retaining intellectual property in Canada. SBQuantum specializes in quantum diamond magnetometers designed to provide navigation solutions in GPS-denied environments, such as conflict zones or underwater settings. The technology has recently been validated by NASA and deployed in space as part of the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s MagQuest Challenge.
