The Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB), Saxony's state development bank, announced that it approved approximately 2.6 billion euros in funding during 2025. This figure represents a decrease from the 3.4 billion euros allocated in the previous year. Katrin Leonhardt, Chairwoman of the SAB, stated that despite a challenging economic environment, the bank successfully provided effective support to municipalities, companies, and private investors while maintaining financial stability. The primary focus of the 2025 funding was infrastructure, which received 818 million euros, specifically targeting lignite mining areas, urban development, and municipal loans. Economic development followed with 753 million euros. Additionally, 453 million euros were designated for education and social affairs, covering educational infrastructure and social cohesion projects. Housing construction secured 367 million euros, aimed at modernizing living spaces, implementing energy-efficient measures, and supporting social housing. Founded in 1991 and based in Leipzig, the SAB supports the Free State of Saxony through loans, grants, and guarantees to fulfill public tasks.
