Sarawak Seeks Operators for Elderly Daycare Centers in Bintulu
Datuk Rosey Yunus, the Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development in Sarawak, announced that there are currently 12 elderly daycare centers operating across the state. As of April, eight centers are located in Kuching, two in Sibu, and one each in Samarahan and Miri. These facilities are managed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private individuals. The Ministry is actively encouraging NGOs, private entities, and interested individuals to establish similar community-based support services in the Bintulu Division, where no such centers currently exist. Prospective operators must consult the Social Welfare Department for guidance and undergo inspections by technical agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department and Ministry of Health, to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Applications are processed through the myKendiri system. Additionally, Rosey outlined five key criteria for establishing Senior Citizens Activity and Service Centers, emphasizing sufficient senior population density, strategic and accessible locations, committed local NGO management, official registration, and departmental support to ensure effective implementation of elder care services.
