Sankari Constituency Demands Auto Nagar and Traffic Solutions Ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Elections

As the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, residents of the Sankari constituency are urging political candidates to address chronic traffic congestion and infrastructure deficits. Sankari, a hub for lorry body workshops located 43 km from Salem, faces severe traffic snarls due to narrow roads and the daily influx of over 10,000 lorries. A primary demand is the establishment of an 'auto nagar' (automobile hub) to organize parking and reduce congestion, a promise made by parties in 2021 but never fulfilled. Currently, lorries occupy the premises of a non-functional new bus stand. Additional grievances include the lack of a flyover at the Nattuvampalayam railway underpass, insufficient tourist facilities at the historic Sankari Fort and Chennakesava Perumal Temple, and the absence of road access for families in Chinna Porappan Pallam for four decades. The constituency, historically contested between DMK and AIADMK, is witnessing a four-corner fight this election cycle involving AIADMK, DMK, NTK, and TVK candidates. Voters are leveraging the electoral process to seek long-overdue civic improvements and relief from daily logistical hardships caused by inadequate urban planning.
