Specialists at OKBM Afrikantov, a subsidiary of Rosatom’s Mechanical Engineering Division, have successfully completed an advanced on-board simulator for the Project 10510 nuclear icebreaker Rossiya. This sophisticated software and hardware complex is designed to train operational personnel in controlling the vessel's RITM-400 reactor units before the ship enters service. By utilizing real-time mathematical models that replicate reactor physics, the simulator allows staff to practice managing various operational scenarios, ranging from normal modes to equipment failures. This training is crucial for maintaining high qualification standards and ensuring safe navigation along the Northern Sea Route. Igor Zotov, a department head at OKBM Afrikantov, emphasized that human expertise is central to Arctic operations, with the simulator serving as a vital tool for integrating nuclear and digital competencies. Currently installed and tested at the OKBM Afrikantov site, the facility is expected to train at least 200 individuals. The Rossiya, powered by two RITM-400 reactors manufactured in 2025, is under construction in the Far East. Upon commissioning, it will become the world's most powerful icebreaker, significantly boosting Arctic shipping capabilities.
