Renault and Geely Partner to Develop Electric SUVs for Overseas Markets
French automaker Renault is collaborating with Chinese automotive giant Geely to develop a new electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) aimed at international markets. According to reports from Chinese media outlet AutoPix, the vehicle will be built on Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA), a core technology platform that has significantly contributed to the success of Geely’s Galaxy lineup. The new SUV model will be available in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. Strategic target markets for this collaboration include Southeast Asia, Central and Latin America, and North Africa. This development follows an earlier announcement in February where the two companies agreed to produce and sell zero- and low-emission vehicles in Brazil. The first model to be introduced in Brazil under this partnership will be the EX5, the overseas version of Geely’s Galaxy E5 SUV. Geely Auto reported strong performance in the first half of the year, with over 1.4 million car deliveries, more than a third of which were from the Galaxy series.
