Pritam Clarifies Arijit Singh's Playback Exit as a Break, Not Retirement

Renowned music composer Pritam Chakraborty has clarified that Bollywood singer Arijit Singh’s recent decision to step away from playback singing should be viewed as a temporary break rather than a permanent retirement. In an interview with Screen, Pritam explained that Singh had been under immense pressure to record numerous songs and had grown weary of the commercial demands of the industry. The composer emphasized that fans are overinterpreting the situation, urging them to respect the artist's need for personal space and time. Pritam revealed that Singh’s announcement also prompted him to reconsider his own plans to take a hiatus, noting that while he had discussed retiring with Singh, the singer acted on his impulse first. Although Singh announced in January that he would no longer accept new playback assignments, he continues to fulfill pending commitments, with releases expected over the next two years. Pritam highlighted their close professional relationship and shared humor regarding their mutual discussions about stepping back from work, ultimately defending Singh’s right to prioritize his well-being over continuous professional output.
