Police Personnel Begin Casting Postal Ballots in Thoothukudi Ahead of Assembly Elections

In Thoothukudi district, police personnel scheduled for election duty on April 23, 2026, have commenced casting their postal ballots to ensure their voting rights are exercised despite work commitments. This initiative allows essential service workers, including police, who cannot vote on polling day to participate in the democratic process. The postal voting exercise began on Friday at the offices of the concerned Returning Officers and is scheduled to continue until Sunday, April 19. Alongside the police, other groups entitled to postal ballots include 5,187 senior citizens aged above 85 and physically challenged voters, as well as 8,967 government employees and teachers involved in polling duties. Many of these eligible voters had the opportunity to cast their votes during the second phase of training on April 15. Those who missed this window can utilize the third phase of training on April 19 to submit their postal ballots. This measure ensures that critical infrastructure and election management staff can fulfill their civic duties without compromising the integrity or staffing of the upcoming Assembly elections.
