Partnership on AI Launches Expert Advisory Group for Economic Futures Initiative
The Partnership on AI (PAI) has officially launched its Labor and Economy Steering Committee, a new expert advisory group designed to support the initiative 'Shaping Economic Futures in the AI Era.' This diverse committee comprises leaders from labor unions, civil society, industry, and academia, including representatives from Microsoft, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, the World Bank, and various educational and policy institutions. The group aims to develop actionable recommendations for stakeholders and policymakers to ensure positive economic outcomes amidst rapid AI advancement. By leveraging AI and labor market scenario analysis developed in collaboration with the Windfall Trust, the initiative seeks to help workers steer AI development toward increasing incomes and reducing global inequality. PAI CEO Rebecca Finlay emphasized that current decisions are critical for defining a future of shared prosperity. This effort builds on PAI’s previous work, such as the Guidelines for AI and Shared Prosperity, which influenced U.S. Department of Labor principles. Supported by the Heising-Simons Foundation, the project addresses growing uncertainty regarding the timeline and distribution of AI's economic impacts, providing tools to prioritize effective actions for labor, industry, and policymakers.
