Over 10,000 Speeding Violations Detected During Police Checks in Hesse

During a coordinated 'Speedmarathon' traffic enforcement campaign in the German state of Hesse, authorities detected 10,248 speeding violations. The operation, part of the European Roadpol network initiative, involved 570 police officers and municipal employees monitoring more than 230 locations across the region. Despite prior public announcement of the checkpoints, 352,004 vehicles were measured, resulting in a complaint rate of 2.9 percent. As a consequence of the crackdown, 103 drivers received driving bans, while criminal proceedings were initiated in 39 cases, including instances involving suspected drug influence and extreme speeding near schools. Notable incidents included a driver in Wiesbaden traveling at 70 km/h in a 30 km/h zone with fake license plates, and a Lamborghini driver in Frankfurt exceeding the limit by 38 km/h. Hesse's Interior Minister, Roman Poseck, emphasized that while prevention is important, strict controls and clear consequences are necessary to remove reckless drivers from the roads and ensure public safety. The campaign highlights ongoing efforts to combat dangerous driving behaviors through heightened visibility and enforcement.
