Oryx Analysts Redirect Patreon Funds to Ukraine and Earthquake Relief
Stijn Mitzer and Joost Oliemans, the analysts behind the open-source intelligence blog Oryx, have announced that they will no longer accept personal donations through their Patreon account. Since March 2021, they redirected all accumulated funds to support humanitarian causes related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the devastating February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. The authors emphasize transparency by detailing the allocation of €8,593 received between 2021 and 2023. Major recipients include Zeilen Van Vrijheid for Ukrainian civilian aid, Ahbap and Giro555 for earthquake relief in Türkiye, and Ernesto's Sanctuary for injured animals in Syria. Additional funds supported mine clearance in Tanzania via APOPO HeroRATs and food distribution in Ukraine. The analysts urge supporters to donate directly to these civilian charities instead of their Patreon, expressing gratitude for past generosity while prioritizing direct aid to those affected by conflict and natural disasters. This initiative highlights a shift from personal monetization to active charitable participation in response to global crises.
