Ontario’s AI Ecosystem Drives Economic Growth with Record Jobs and Investment
The Vector Institute, in partnership with Deloitte Canada, released its fourth annual Ontario AI Snapshot, highlighting significant growth in the province's artificial intelligence sector. The report confirms Ontario's status as a leading global AI hub, driven by a surge in talent concentration, job creation, and private investment. Key findings for the 2024-25 period include the creation of 17,196 new AI jobs, representing a 101% increase, and the retention of over 39,000 positions. Additionally, 70 new AI companies were established, while 413 firms invested a total of $2.6 billion CAD in Ontario-based AI entities. This venture capital funding surpasses combined investments in energy, manufacturing, financial services, and agriculture. Despite these gains, the report notes that only 51% of companies leveraging AI have organization-wide strategies, indicating a need for improved adoption rates. Leaders emphasize that maintaining this momentum requires increased R&D investment and broader implementation of AI solutions to close productivity gaps and retain top-tier talent within the competitive global landscape.
