The Vector Institute, in collaboration with Deloitte, released its annual Ontario AI snapshot report covering the period from April 2021 to March 2022. The findings indicate a significant strengthening of Ontario's artificial intelligence ecosystem, marked by substantial increases in job creation, investment, and talent development. Specifically, the province saw a 210% surge in new AI jobs, totaling approximately 22,458 positions, with one-third offering salaries of $85,000 or more. Venture capital investment also rose dramatically by 206% to reach $2.86 billion, while the number of unique corporate investors increased by 29%. On the educational front, enrollment in recognized AI programs grew by 17%, and graduations from AI master’s programs rose significantly. Furthermore, R&D spending ranged between $852 million and $2.75 billion. The report highlights that 51% of surveyed business executives consider AI strategically important for their objectives.
