One Injured, Three Pets Killed in Thorncliffe Basement Fire
Calgary fire crews responded to a basement fire in the northeast community of Thorncliffe shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday. The blaze, located in the 5400 block of Centre Street N.E., resulted in one person being hospitalized with minor burns and smoke inhalation. While all four human occupants successfully evacuated after being alerted by one resident, the fire claimed the lives of one dog and two cats. Emergency responders managed to rescue three other dogs and two cats alive. Upon arrival, firefighters observed visible smoke and flames from the rear of the house and immediately began suppression efforts and occupant searches. Enmax and ATCO utilities attended the scene to secure power and gas lines. A fire investigator is currently determining the exact origin and cause of the incident, which remains unconfirmed.
