Officials Urge Enrollment in PMJJBY and PMSBY Schemes in Udupi

R. Vishal, Secretary of Infrastructure Development, chaired a review meeting at the Udupi district office complex in Manipal-Udupi on May 11, 2026. He strongly urged employees in both government and private sectors to enroll in the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). Vishal highlighted that these schemes offer financial security against unexpected health expenses and provide an immediate compensation of ₹40 lakh to families in case of accidental death upon payment of a small monthly premium. Beyond insurance enrollment, the meeting addressed critical infrastructure issues. Vishal instructed district officials to prevent drinking water crises in rural Udupi under the Jal Jeevan Mission and prioritize the completion of the Varahi Lift Irrigation project. He also emphasized extending healthcare access to the Koraga primitive tribes through Accredited Social Health Activists. Additionally, he advocated for skill training at Industrial Training Institutes to help local youth secure jobs at the Cochin Ship Yard in Udupi. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa and Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, focusing on social welfare and infrastructure development.
