NSW Government Announces $4.5 Million Investment to Complete Sydney's 91km Foreshore Path
The New South Wales state government has announced a $4.5 million investment to complete missing links in a continuous 91-kilometre walking and cycling path connecting the Sydney Opera House to Parramatta Park. This initiative aims to join existing sections across 18 suburbs along Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River, celebrating the city's geography and exercise culture. Transport Minister John Graham stated that the project builds on the success of other local tracks and forms part of the state’s first walking strategy. Currently, approximately 68 kilometres of the route are accessible, while 23 kilometres require further planning and construction. The funding will support immediate upgrades in the inner west, including new shared paths and lighting in Chiswick and Concord, as well as improvements near the Bay Run loop. Additional works have commenced in Rydalmere and Parramatta, with construction on the Bennelong Parkway Bridge scheduled to begin mid-year. The project, originally identified in the 2017 Sydney green grid plan, seeks to address inconsistent pedestrian access and improve connectivity for both locals and tourists, despite potential challenges involving waterfront private properties.
