Nishant Kumar Likely Elected to Bihar Legislative Council Amid Upcoming Vacancies

Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar is expected to be elected to the State Legislative Council next month, following in the footsteps of his father and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar. Ten seats in the Upper House are set to become vacant, with nine terms expiring on June 28 and one seat already vacated by Nitish Kumar upon his election to the Rajya Sabha. The vacancies include five seats from the ruling JD(U), two from the BJP, two from the opposition RJD, and one from Congress. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), holding a significant majority with 202 MLAs, aims to secure all ten seats, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), with exactly 25 MLAs, hopes to retain at least one seat through potential cross-party support. Other notable figures likely to enter the Council include Deepak Prakash, son of RLM chief and current Panchayati Raj Minister. The Election Commission is anticipated to announce poll dates in late May for elections scheduled in June.
