NIO Unveils 5nm Autonomous Driving Chip, Sky OS, and AI Assistant
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO revealed significant advancements in its technological roadmap during its annual Tech Day event in Shanghai. The company announced the successful tape-out of the Shenji NX9031, claimed to be the world’s first 5-nanometer chip designed specifically for autonomous driving. This system-on-chip offers high pixel throughput for superior image processing in low-light conditions and is scheduled for mass delivery with the ET9 sedan in early 2025. Additionally, NIO launched Sky OS, a proprietary operating system providing central control over all vehicle domains, serving as an alternative to Linux and QNX. The update also included plans for the Navigate on Pilot Plus (NOP+) 2.0 advanced driver assistance system, set for release in the second half of the year. Furthermore, NIO introduced Banyan 3.0, an enhanced in-car user interface featuring NOMI, a conversational assistant powered by generative AI large language models.
