NIO to Launch Nine New Models Across Three Brands in 2025
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer NIO plans to launch nine new and refreshed models under its three brands—NIO, Onvo, and Firefly—in 2025. CEO William Li announced this strategy aims to achieve higher gross margins through in-house semiconductors and improved supply chain efficiency, targeting a break-even point by year-end. The company expects significant growth in the third and fourth quarters, with new model releases scheduled nearly every month starting in May or June. A key highlight is the debut of the Onvo L90, a large six-seat SUV priced competitively against the Tesla Model Y, with deliveries set for Q3 2025. Additionally, the compact Firefly EV has entered the Chinese market and is slated for European expansion between June and August, followed by right-hand drive versions for the UK and Southeast Asia. Despite a 40.1% year-over-year increase in Q1 deliveries, NIO faces challenges as Onvo sales have missed expectations. Refreshed versions of existing models like the ET5 and ES6 will also be released later this year to bolster the product lineup and restore vehicle margins, which had declined to 13.1% previously.
