The State government in Karnataka has launched a renewed initiative to promote the use of Khadi among public servants. Government employees, along with staff from aided institutions, corporations, boards, autonomous bodies, and universities, are urged to voluntarily wear Khadi attire on the first Saturday of every month and during major official functions such as Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations. This directive follows a circular issued by the Chief Secretary on January 29, 2026, aimed at encouraging wider adoption of indigenous fabrics in official circles. To facilitate this transition, a temporary Khadi sales stall will be established at the new Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises on Bannur Road in Mysuru. The stall will operate on May 14 and 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing employees convenient access to purchase Khadi garments. Sharath Chandra, the District Khadi and Village Industries Officer, has appealed to government employees to utilize this facility.
