The special vehicle, based on the 8500 series model in service since 1990, features a bright yellow exterior inspired by Showa-era trams and an interior heavily utilizing wood materials. This initiative aims to enhance the line's appeal and revitalize the surrounding communities along the 12.2-kilometer route between Minowabashi and Waseda. The renovation project cost approximately 35 million yen, with about 7.8 million yen raised through public crowdfunding. Mitooka is well-known for designing JR Kyushu's luxury sleeper train, Seven Stars in Kyushu. To improve passenger convenience, the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation has integrated real-time location tracking for this specific vehicle into the Toei Transportation App. This launch represents a significant effort to blend nostalgic design elements with modern digital accessibility to boost local tourism and public transport usage.
