MimiVax and Roswell Park Launch Phase 2 Trial of SurVaxM for Metastatic Neuroendocrine Tumours
MimiVax and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center have initiated a new phase 2 clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of SurVaxM, a survivin-targeting peptide vaccine, in combination with temozolomide for patients with progressing metastatic neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). Led by principal investigator Dr. Jasmeet Kaur, the study aims to compare the combination therapy against temozolomide alone in individuals whose disease continues to advance despite previous treatments. NETs, which typically arise in the gastrointestinal tract and lungs, often have limited treatment options once first-line therapies fail, and immunotherapy has historically shown little benefit in this context. Previous phase 1 results indicated that SurVaxM was well-tolerated and generated measurable immune responses and clinical benefits. Survivin, the protein targeted by the vaccine, is present in approximately 52 percent of NET specimens and is linked to aggressive disease. This trial expands on earlier safety data and follows MimiVax’s ongoing research into SurVaxM for glioblastoma, pediatric brain tumours, and multiple myeloma, highlighting survivin as a promising therapeutic target across various cancer types.
