S.K. Memorial Centre in Kozhikode Set for Major Renovation and Tourism Boost

The S.K. Memorial Centre, dedicated to the renowned travel writer S.K. Pottekkatt, is undergoing a significant renovation project aimed at transforming it into a vibrant tourist destination. Located on a river islet at the confluence of the Iravanjippuzha and Cherupuzha rivers near Mukkom in Kozhikode, Kerala, the memorial was originally constructed in 2005 by the Karassery grama panchayat. The upcoming redevelopment includes the construction of a flood-resistant structure built on concrete pillars to protect the site from water damage, alongside improvements to the adjoining bamboo grove. This initiative seeks to honor Pottekkatt’s legacy, as the writer once lived in this scenic riverside area, which also served as the backdrop for his famous novel, Naadan Premam. By enhancing the infrastructure and aesthetic appeal of the memorial, local authorities aim to boost tourism in the region while preserving the cultural and literary heritage associated with the author.
