Meituan Expands Lightning Warehouse Network to Digital Appliances
Meituan Instashopping is set to expand its "lightning warehouse" system to include digital appliances this year, following significant growth in its convenience store partnerships. According to a report by Jiemian News on March 18, several digital appliance brands are currently in negotiations with Meituan regarding cooperation. Lightning warehouses are online-only fulfillment hubs designed for rapid delivery, operating independently of standard supply chains. These hubs offer a much wider product selection, stocking between 6,000 and 10,000 SKUs, compared to the limited inventory of traditional community supermarkets. Meituan collaborates with merchants to establish these offline warehouses, providing online traffic, product selection guidance, and promising 30-minute delivery services. This expansion mirrors the successful model implemented with budget retailer Miniso, which launched over 800 similar stores last year. By late 2023, Meituan had already established over 30,000 such warehouses across China, driven by strong demand in lower-tier markets where order growth reached 54% year-on-year from January to August 2024. This strategic move highlights Meituan's continued dominance and innovation in the instant retail sector.
