MediaTek Q1 Revenue Rises 14.9% Driven by Mobile Chip Demand
MediaTek has reported a strong financial performance for the first quarter, with revenue reaching NT$153.31 billion ($4.75 billion), representing a 14.9% year-on-year increase. The company attributed this growth to robust market demand and the accelerated adoption of advanced technologies, including AI, 5G, and Wi-Fi 7, which improved its product mix. Operating gross profit also saw a rise of 5.6% to NT$73.81 billion ($2.29 billion). However, the gross margin declined to 48.1%, a drop of 4.3% from the previous year, primarily due to shifts in product mix and a high comparison base from a one-off gain recorded in the first quarter of 2023. Vice Chairman Rick Tsai highlighted that mobile chips remained the core driver of success, accounting for 56% of total revenue, which is a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. This report underscores MediaTek's strengthening position in the semiconductor industry, particularly in the mobile sector, despite slight margin pressures. The results reflect broader trends in consumer electronics recovery and the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into mobile devices.
