Man Impersonating IAS Officer Arrested for ₹41 Lakh Fraud in Bengaluru

The Amruthahalli police in Bengaluru have arrested a man identified as Mithun, a native of Kadur in Chikkamagaluru district, for allegedly impersonating an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The accused is charged with defrauding a medical store owner of ₹41 lakh under the false pretext of securing a government contract. According to the complainant, Mithun was introduced through a District Surgeon and claimed to be a 2023-batch IAS officer working with the National Health Mission (NHM). He promised to facilitate a medicine supply order worth ₹1.8 crore for Primary Health Centres. Relying on these false claims of holding a senior government position, the victim transferred significant funds to the accused. The arrest highlights a case of identity fraud and financial deception targeting individuals seeking government contracts. Police are investigating the extent of the fraud, as Mithun is accused of deceiving multiple individuals by falsely representing himself as a high-ranking official. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities in verifying official credentials during business transactions involving government supplies.
