Madurai Railway Division Records Highest-Ever Revenue Earnings in 2025-26

The Madurai Railway Division achieved a historic financial milestone during the 2025–26 fiscal year, recording its highest-ever total revenue earnings of ₹1,408.69 crore. This performance surpassed the annual target of ₹1,340 crore by 5% and represented a 13% growth compared to the previous year's earnings of ₹1,245 crore. Key drivers included robust passenger and freight operations. Passenger earnings reached an all-time high of ₹886.32 crore, exceeding targets by 3%, with passenger traffic growing 6% to 4.89 crore. Freight operations also set records, earning ₹411 crore against a target of ₹375.05 crore, while handling 3.572 million tonnes of cargo. The division successfully diversified revenue streams through new traffic initiatives, such as yellow peas transport. Additional significant contributions came from parcel handling, ticket checking, and commercial asset utilization, including advertisements and parking contracts, which saw a 48% increase in earnings. Scrap sales further boosted revenue by 16.02%. These results highlight the division's operational efficiency and successful business development strategies under Indian Railways.
