Leopard Sighting Triggers Panic and Safety Measures Near Athani

Residents in villages near the forest fringe areas of Athani, Erode district, have been advised to exercise extreme caution following confirmed reports of leopard movement in the region. The alert was initiated after a local farmer, Gowtham from Kulathukadu village, reported spotting a leopard in his agricultural field two days prior. Forest Department officials subsequently visited the site and verified the animal's presence by examining pugmarks found in the area. In response to the threat, forest personnel launched awareness campaigns in nearby localities, including Anna Nagar, Kakkachi Kuttai, Sembulichampalayam, and Amma Nagar. Residents were specifically instructed to ensure the safety of both themselves and their livestock. To manage the situation, authorities have deployed a cage trap to capture the leopard and installed surveillance cameras to monitor its movements. Additionally, forest staff have intensified patrolling operations in the affected zones to prevent any potential human-animal conflict and ensure public safety while efforts to secure the animal continue.
