Krishnagiri Mango Farmers Petition for Tripartite Meeting to Fix Prices

Mango farmers in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, have submitted a petition to the district administration requesting a tripartite meeting involving growers, the mango pulp industry, and government officials. The Krishnagiri Reservoir Project Dam left canal watershed farmers’ association argues that without administrative intervention, farmers are forced to accept abysmally low prices due to alleged price cartelization by the pulp industry. With over 47,000 hectares under mango cultivation, primarily Thotapuri varieties used for pulp, farmers report receiving only ₹3.50 to ₹5 per kg. In contrast, they are demanding a fair price range of ₹12 to ₹15 per kg during normal seasons. The association explicitly calls on the government to emulate Andhra Pradesh’s model of announcing a minimum support price (MSP) for mangoes. They believe that a government-mediated guaranteed price is essential to break the existing price syndicate and ensure remunerative income for the agricultural community. This action highlights ongoing tensions between local agricultural producers and industrial buyers regarding fair market valuation and regulatory oversight in the fruit processing sector.
