Kerala Sub-Inspector Arrested for Sexual Harassment and Extortion After Surrendering

A sub-inspector attached to the Elamakkara police station in Kochi, Kerala, was arrested on Monday after surrendering to authorities. The officer, identified as Mujeeb H., had been absconding since two separate cases involving alleged sexual harassment and attempted extortion were registered against him. The incidents stem from his role as an investigation assistant in a narcotics case last September. Authorities allege that Mujeeb exploited his position by threatening to implicate individuals found in a suspect's contact list. In one instance, he allegedly intimidated a female complainant into granting sexual favors, threatening to involve her in the narcotics probe when she resisted. In another case, a doctor from Pathanamthitta accused him of attempting to extort Rs. 1.5 lakh through similar threats. Mujeeb had gone on leave prior to the formal filing of FIRs and remained in hiding until his recent surrender at the North Town police station. He is scheduled to be produced before a court and faces departmental disciplinary actions, including suspension. The case highlights allegations of police misconduct and abuse of power within the local law enforcement framework.
