Karnataka CM Warns of Monsoon Deficit, Holds DCs Accountable for Water Supply

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned that the state faces a potential monsoon deficit in all districts except five, urging immediate precautionary measures to safeguard drinking water supplies. During a high-level review meeting held at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister explicitly placed the responsibility on Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to ensure adequate water availability, stating they would be held personally accountable for any shortages. The meeting included key stakeholders such as district in-charge Ministers, senior officials, and CEOs of zilla panchayats. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda were also present. This directive highlights the administration's proactive approach to mitigating the impacts of anticipated rainfall deficits. By centralizing accountability with district-level administrators, the state government aims to prevent crises related to water scarcity.
