Karnataka Minister D. Sudhakar Cremated with State Honours in Challakere

The mortal remains of D. Sudhakar, the Planning and Statistics Minister of Karnataka, were cremated with full state honours on May 11, 2026, in Challakere, Chitradurga district. Sudhakar passed away on Sunday, May 10. The final rites were conducted at the Jain Mukthidham on Pavagada Road, adhering to Jain traditions. High-profile political leaders attended the ceremony to pay their last respects, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and AICC general secretary Randeep Surjewala, along with other members of the State Cabinet. During the proceedings, police personnel fired a three-round salute to honour the departed leader. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also presented the national flag to Sudhakar’s wife, Harshini Sudhakar, as a mark of respect. Hundreds of residents from Hiriyur and Challakere participated in the procession carrying his mortal remains through the city. The event highlighted the significant political stature of Sudhakar and the collective mourning of the state leadership and local community.
