Karnataka High Court Allows E-Auction of Discontinued Liquor Licences

A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court has cleared the path for the electronic auction of discontinued and unallotted liquor licences in the Indian state of Karnataka. The court achieved this by setting aside an interim order issued by a single judge in November 2025, which had previously stayed the implementation of amended excise rules. These amended rules were designed to alter the framework for granting and renewing specific types of liquor licences through an e-auction process.
