Karnataka Government Orders Sunflower Seed Procurement at ₹7,721 per Quintal

The Karnataka State government has officially ordered the procurement of sunflower seeds for the 2025-26 rabi season at a support price of ₹7,721 per quintal. This initiative covers eleven districts, including Bagalkot, Belagavi, and Vijayapura, aiming to support local farmers under the national support price scheme. Sugar, Textiles and Agricultural Marketing Minister Shivanand Patil directed authorities to immediately establish procurement centers in collaboration with organizations possessing adequate warehouse facilities. The Karnataka Cooperative Oilseed Growers’ Federation will serve as the primary state-level procurement agency, working alongside national bodies like NAFED and NCCF. Farmers are required to complete registration within the next 50 days, with the actual procurement process scheduled to occur over the subsequent 60 days. Deputy commissioners heading District Task Force Committees have been instructed to oversee these operations strictly. Minister Patil emphasized the need for early preparations to prevent logistical issues and warned officials against the misuse of procurement centers by traders. Daily progress reports must be submitted to the State government and the Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board to ensure transparency and efficiency in the distribution and purchase process.
