Karnataka Folklore University Probed for Unauthorized PG Courses

The Karnataka Folklore University is currently under investigation by the Higher Education Department for allegedly offering postgraduate courses that fall outside its specialized mandate of folklore studies. This inquiry was initiated following a formal complaint revealing that the university has been running programs in unrelated fields such as Economics, Sociology, Master of Social Welfare, and Visual Arts since the 2018-19 academic year. Authorities state that the university failed to obtain necessary approvals for these course statutes from both the state government and the Chancellor, which is a mandatory requirement for operating any academic program. In response to these allegations, the department has constituted a special committee headed by former Vice-Chancellor H.C. Boralingaiah. The committee is tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter and submitting a detailed report within 15 days. Officials emphasized that specialized universities are strictly permitted to offer only those courses aligned with their specific area of expertise, and running unauthorized programs violates established educational regulations. This case highlights significant regulatory compliance issues within the state's higher education framework.
