Karnataka Congress MLAs Lobby for Cabinet Reshuffle in Delhi

A delegation of Congress Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Karnataka met with All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi on April 16, 2026. The primary objective of the meeting was to lobby for a cabinet reshuffle within the state government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The legislators urged the party leadership to authorize the replacement of ministers who have held multiple terms with senior legislators who are currently without portfolio. This follows a previous meeting on April 13 with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, where similar demands were conveyed. Senior MLA T.B. Jayachandra confirmed that the group also plans to meet K.C. Venugopal to press their agenda. The MLAs, who have been in the capital since April 12, are scheduled to return to Bengaluru on April 17. They did not meet Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi due to ongoing parliamentary sessions focused on delimitation and women's reservation bills. The move highlights internal pressure within the Karnataka Congress unit to redistribute power and accommodate experienced lawmakers.
