Karnataka Approves Rs 224-Crore Aquarium and Immersive Centers for Bannerghatta and Mysuru Zoos
The Karnataka state government has approved a significant infrastructure upgrade for two major zoological parks: Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru and Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysuru. With a combined investment of approximately Rs 224 crore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the projects aim to enhance visitor experiences through modern attractions. The centerpiece is a Rs 144.4 crore world-class aquarium at Bannerghatta, featuring diverse marine and freshwater species from global habitats, along with activities like scuba diving and glass-bottom boat rides. Additionally, both zoos will receive immersive experience centers costing Rs 35.22 crore and Rs 44.62 crore respectively. These centers will offer 270–360 degree projection shows focusing on India’s biodiversity and conservation. A digital zoo guide with augmented reality features will also be implemented. The initiatives, managed under a 20-year Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) framework, are designed to boost tourism and educational engagement while showcasing advanced life support and zero liquid discharge systems.
