Kalaburagi Police Recover 785 Mobile Phones Worth ₹1.45 Crore via CEIR Portal

The Kalaburagi Police Commissionerate in Karnataka, India, successfully recovered 785 mobile phones valued at approximately ₹1.45 crore (₹14.49 million) during a specialized two-month operation. Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa announced the results, highlighting the effective use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and the e-Lost system. The coordinated drive involved inspectors from all local police stations, CEIR support teams, and CEN police personnel acting on complaints regarding lost or stolen devices. Of the recovered units, 688 were traced within Karnataka, while others originated from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. This recent effort brings the total number of phones returned to owners to 2,408. Commissioner Sharanappa emphasized that prompt registration of complaints on digital platforms increases recovery chances to nearly 70%. He urged citizens to enhance device security by using strong passwords, biometric locks, and the 'Find My Device' feature. The operation underscores the growing efficacy of digital tracking tools in combating mobile phone theft and assisting victims in recovering their property across state lines.
