Israeli Army Fire Kills Palestinian Teen in West Bank

A 17-year-old Palestinian, identified as Mohammed Murad Mahmud Rayan, was killed by Israeli forces on Thursday morning in Beit Duqqu, a village located just north of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank. The Ramallah-based Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the death, stating that occupation forces were responsible. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the incident occurred during a wide-scale search operation targeting several homes. Conversely, the Israeli Army stated that its troops were engaged in operational activity when a violent disturbance broke out. Military officials claimed that a terrorist hurled stones at soldiers, posing a significant threat, which prompted them to respond with fire and neutralize the individual. This incident highlights the continued volatility in the West Bank, where violence has surged since the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023. Even following a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, tensions remain high. Recent data indicates that over 1,060 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli soldiers or settlers since the start of the Gaza war, while at least 46 Israelis have died in Palestinian attacks or during military operations in the same period.
