Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu formally launched India’s first indigenous quantum computing testing facility, the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF), at SRM University in Amaravati. The launch coincided with World Quantum Day and marks a significant milestone in India's National Quantum Mission. During the ceremony, Naidu virtually triggered the cooling process for the processor of the Amaravati 1Q system, which is housed at Medha Towers in Gannavaram, while the Amaravati 1S system was demonstrated as an open-access setup. Officials stated that this development provides India with open sovereign quantum infrastructure. The facility is part of the broader Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative, which aims to become a top-five global quantum hub. The valley already hosts an IBM 133-qubit quantum computer and has established over 80 industry and academic partnerships. This new indigenous hardware dimension complements existing quantum cloud, skilling, and innovation infrastructure, positioning the region as an international center for quantum technology development and research.
