ICCT Role in EU Radicalisation Awareness Network Policy Support
The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) serves as a core partner in the European Commission’s Radicalisation Awareness Network Policy Support (RAN PS) project. Running from January 2021 to December 2024, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research and policymaking to prevent and counter radicalization across EU Member States and priority third countries. As a functional unit coordinator and lead implementing partner, ICCT provides expertise on critical issues such as managing returning foreign terrorist fighters, prison-exit risk assessments, strategic communications, and countering disinformation. Between 2021 and 2022, ICCT produced 13 research papers and organized 11 capacity-building events for approximately 500 policymakers, while coordinating over 50 additional training sessions. The organization also leads monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess the project's impact on evidence-based policymaking. The broader consortium is led by CIVIPOL, with RAN PS resources restricted to EU policymakers. This collaboration highlights ongoing institutional efforts to enhance security frameworks through knowledge-sharing and structured capacity building within the European Union.
