Chinese autonomous driving technology firm Horizon Robotics has announced that its full-stack automated driving solution, Horizon SuperDrive, will commence mass delivery with a Chinese automaker in the third quarter of this year. Founder and CEO Yu Kai outlined an ambitious roadmap, predicting the rollout of hands-off Level 3 driving systems within three years, followed by eyes-off capabilities two years later, and full autonomy by approximately 2035. The SuperDrive system utilizes end-to-end learning via a single neural network and combines cameras, radar, and lidar without relying on high-precision maps, facilitating easier scaling across major Chinese cities. During a recent test drive in Shanghai using Horizon’s Journey 6 computing platform, the system demonstrated smooth navigation through complex urban traffic. As a key partner to major automakers like Volkswagen and BYD, Horizon recently completed a significant IPO in Hong Kong. The company reports that over five million vehicles currently use its technologies, with plans to integrate its next-generation hardware into 100 new models in the coming years, marking a significant step in the commercialization of advanced driver-assistance systems in China.
