Hong Kong Urged to Expand Role in National Medical Research
A senior official from China's National Health Commission has called for Hong Kong to play a more significant role in major national clinical research projects and scientific breakthroughs. Speaking at the Hospital Authority Convention, Li Wei, deputy director general of the commission’s Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, pledged stronger support for local researchers participating in mainland science and technology initiatives. He emphasized the importance of leveraging Hong Kong's unique strengths, including its global connectivity and strong backing from the mainland, to foster collaboration in both clinical and basic research. The remarks were delivered on behalf of Vice-Minister Professor Zeng Yixin during the three-day conference, which attracted over 9,000 healthcare professionals and academics from local, mainland, and overseas institutions.
